Want turkey? Better have that photo ID!
Well the elections have officially begun now that Mitt Romney has won the Republican nomination. The attack ads are ramping up and so is the rhetoric from the left. Eric Holder, the ACLU and even the IRS partnered to bring to black Pastors representing over 100 churches, a seminar on talking to their congregation about voter ID laws.
I was inspired to do this blog for several reasons and one is this point I just mentioned. Is it not unprecedented that our country’s Attorney General and the IRS would decided to “talk” to all of the Pastors about voter suppression issues and how to avoid losing their 501 (c) (3) status? Has this ever happened before? Nope, can’t seem to find an example when I research it on the web.
The DOJ has decided to take both Texas and South Carolina to task after both states voted for the use of a photo ID in order to vote. The whole purpose in using the photo ID is to of course stop voter fraud. Now Democrats in the Congressional Black Caucus among others are making this a “race” issue. That card seems to be played more often by the left since they can’t argue on merits.
Babbling on about “suppression” and “Jim Crow days” seem to be the norm with the CBC these days as well as good ole’ Al Sharpton. With that said, it seems Mr. Sharpton (I refuse to call him a Reverend) has forgotten one little tidbit with his rantings about these alleged “discriminatory practices” is that it would appear he is in-directly or directly involved in that practice himself!
Here in Augusta, Ga. every year during the month of November, there is an event called “The James Brown Turkey Giveaway. The legendary singer started this many years ago to give back to the community he considers home and after his death his family has continued with the legacy. Every year Al Sharpton has participated in the event in honor of his long time friend Mr. Brown.
Well guess what is required to receive this said “turkey” but none other than a picture ID! OMG! The horror of requiring a photo ID to pick up a free turkey! So before you can get to where Sharpton stands ready to hand out this bird, you MUST FIRST be passed through after you present your ID.
Now I have to ask this question to the DOJ, CBC and Al Sharpton:
“If it is required to have a photo ID to get a succulent bird for feasting on Thanksgiving, then why is it NOT required by your standards and claims, to present the same ID to vote in an election?”
Below is a post from the Augusta Chronicle on the event last year (I have also provided the link)
For the first time, recipients had to pre-register for turkeys because the Brown family learned that people were getting two and three turkeys per household at past giveaways. Requiring pre-registration cut down on excess, said Brown’s daughter Deanna Brown-Thomas. In the past, the annual turkey giveaway handed out 800 to 1,000 turkeys a year.
“It eliminated extra turkeys that were not needed because there was so much abuse,” said Brown-Thomas, who added the giveaway was made possible by the donations of sponsors.
Local residents could also pre-register an hour before the giveaway. To qualify, they had to provide ID and a utility bill.
Now if you read the article the reason the Brown organization/family decided to require a photo ID (in addition to a utility bill) is because of…….. you guessed it, FRAUD! Now Eric Holder himself (who has risen from the dead like Lazarus) apparently has experienced a few incidents of someone using his name to vote (via special investigative reporting by James O’Keefe) where only his “signature” was required.
Even this past April, the state of Florida uncovered mass voter fraud with illegals. So tell me again Mr. Holder and Mr. Sharpton how the practice of requesting a photo ID is discriminatory? If that is the case, all those people who had to show their ID last November here in Augusta certainly needs to complain about being discriminated against! Who should they call……Ghostbusters?
YOU GO GIRL!!!! DAD
